With the technological interest and savvy shared by many adolescents, creative treatment delivery methods such as internet-based approaches have developed and have been shown to be effective for cognitive behavioral therapy. With growing empirical support for the effectiveness of psychodynamic psychotherapy in treating adolescents, Linqvist et al. (2020) conducted a randomized controlled study to assess its effectiveness when delivered in an online format, with promising results. Providing psychodynamic psychotherapy online for adolescents is a promising option. This article presents the study and its findings.

The article is authored by an international team of researchers, representing Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Many have been involved in numerous studies assessing and reviewing the effectiveness of psychodynamic psychotherapy for adolescents and children.   

The article was selected by Dr. Marylie Gerson. Dr. Gerson received her PhD in Psychology from Princeton University and is both an experimental social psychologist and clinical psychologist. She is Psychology Professor Emeritus at California Lutheran University and combines teaching and research with an active clinical practice.
