Our mission is to help mental health professionals develop professionally and maintain current knowledge of advances in the field with high quality, conveniently accessible, and affordable continuing education programs in psychology. As clinicians ourselves, we strive to help other mental health professionals develop new skills and maintain and improve their competence so that they can best serve the public and contribute to their profession. We are continually updating and refining our continuing education programs to ensure their accuracy and cogency, and we strive to keep our topics relevant and exciting for the working professional. Our online programs offer convenient and affordable access and a variety of learning modalities that allow clinicians from across the globe to engage with materials and discussions to further their knowledge and skills. To help promote clinical professional development, we also provide means by which many of our courses may be applied to institute specialization certificates. We currently offer a specialization Certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and are developing concentrations in other areas as well, including Mindfulness Training and Child Abuse and Interpersonal Violence.
As a group of experienced clinicians, educators, and researchers in the field, we were concerned about the lack of excellent and accessible continuing education opportunities in psychology. We founded the Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies in 1992 to provide quality continuing education in psychology and professional development programs for mental health professionals in conveniently accessible formats, including homestudy. Today we offer a variety of online continuing education courses, webinars, and institute specialization certificates in psychotherapy. We also offer small, collegial in-person seminars and case discussion groups in southern California. Professionals from across the globe seek our online programs as an informative, convenient, and affordable means of staying current in their fields and meeting their continuing education needs. We have been approved continuously since 1992.
The Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
We are listed as a psychology resource with Psych Central — a site for mental health and psychology information and support.
We perpetuate the development of scientific and professional scholarship through challenging and innovative programs that provide state-of-the-art information and promote balanced judgment and critical inquiry for mental health professionals. Our topics and readings include contemporary issues and publications, as well as classics, and may be taken individually and/or applied to institute specialization certificate programs. In this way, clinicians can build upon their graduate education with the latest ideas in the field, as well as build a more solid foundation in specialized areas by returning to classics that they may never have had the opportunity to study earlier. We thereby provide for the interests of the clinical field’s future, along with its legacy.
We actively monitor psychology continuing education needs, as defined by local, state, and national professional organizations, as well as by other public service organizations. Additionally, we conduct needs assessment studies to further sample specific professional needs.
