The online course Personality Disorders from a Psychoanalytic Perspective examines how major psychoanalytic theories contribute to understanding personality formation and pathology. Drawing on the work of Freud, Abraham, Fenichel, Kohut, Kernberg, Masterson, and Bollas, Dr. Michael J. Gerson considers personality disorders described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) through a range of psychoanalytic perspectives. The course explores how these perspectives can deepen clinical understanding of personality organization and inform work with patients with enduring patterns of functioning.
